Real life is often stranger than fiction, as the saying goes. One of the quickest-growing genres today, documentary is an exciting avenue which also benefits from increased connectivity, with many real-life stories going viral online.
We're always on the lookout for surprising stories that the world deserves to hear, especially those important to the Manx community.
One of the best things about documentary is that you only have to talk to someone in the street to find a subject.
Do you know someone whose story needs to be shared with the world?
Patrick & Bethany from Dark Avenue Film approached the Executive Committee of the Manx Youth Band back in 2019 with the suggestion to make a film to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Manx Youth Band and 25th Anniversary of Manx Concert Brass in 2020.
The Committee were impressed with Patrick & Bethany's very professional approach to how the film would be structured i.e. looking at the past, present and future and they worked well with the Committee with regards to the film's content. They organised interviews with key members of the Organisation and attended concerts and rehearsals to film the bands performing.
Unfortunately due to the Covid 19 restrictions some plans for filming the Bands had to be abandoned however, Patrick & Bethany were not daunted by this and came up with alternative plans to enable the production of the film to continue.
The end product was excellent and has been well received by the Organisation as well as the Manx public. It premiered at the Manx Last Night of the Proms in September 2020 and was released on YouTube in the November.
